Coolnet Character

This is some concept art I did for DragonFX (a really awesome animation studio). We were working on a project for Coolnet. I did these sketches for the animators and the 3D artists to take and make animations.

Leprecon Dude

Sara Pullen was randomly piked for the last character I did. She sent me a little sketch and I created a new character but with a similar idea. I think my version looks like a Lepercon lol. Ghost Demon Hunter

 

She is a ghost demon hunter. The ghost have stolen all the colors from the world and she is on a mission to slay the ghosts and return the colors to earth.

This is just a character design for now but I hope to create a finished painting around this idea someday, when I get some free time :) Thanks for looking!

Angel Fairy

Hello everyone, this is an angel fairy. Based off my wife and one of her little sketches she did on my whiteboard. :) It feels like a long time since I have done any personal work because I have been so busy, but the other day when I was waiting to hear back from some clients I painted this.

This is a t-shirt design I did for a lacrosse tournament. The tournament was for retired lacrosse players :)

Wedding Caricatures

 

I was commissioned to do about 200 little cartoon sketches of each person who came to the wedding. These sketches were used as wedding favors and also name tags for each place setting. This was a lot of sketches but it was fun :) I also did a painting of the couple.

Panda Pirate

I have been so busy lately; moving and getting married... but I painted this little guy as a thank you to all the nice people who have helped me out. (The top part is just a couple quick sketches to develop ideas)

Control Freak

 

This is my artwork for Dan Writes Sins single, Control Freak. (I took the type off for portfolio purposes) Dan, is a supper nice and talented guy. He collaborated with Dj s3rl, a world famous DJ. Dan has also done vocals for artist like Jeffery Star. Slightly different style of painting, thought it would go good with this very electronic song:)

Cat character design

 

I'm doing illustration for a really awesome children's book called "The Neighbor's Cat".  Here is the main cat design. (Sketches on left, different positions on top right, slightly rendered out cat bottom right.) 

Fisher Price

 

I recently interviewed for a art position at Fisher Price. This is a little painting I did for the really nice people who interviewed me. He is a meditating wizard guy. I was inspired by Fisher Price's Little People. I wanted to create my own Little People character :) 

Hawk

 

I recently took a class were we were able to paint birds from life. I painted a bunch or hawks and owls form life then took a photo to finish up this painting. I painted in a cool and warm light so that the flat florescent lights in the room didn't flatten my painting. 

Video Game Backgrounds

 

-Over the past few months a had a great opportunity to be part of a team of game designers, animators, and artists. I learned about the process in creating a video game, animation, textures, maya, and much more. I was the background artist. My job was to take the ideas of the art director and create a look and feel for the game. These background were then given to the 3D modelers and they would create the actual platforms that the characters in the game would move about on. 

-Color is very important in creating a story/feel of an environment. Some environments I wanted to be more mystical and slightly creepy wile others I wanted them to be more bright and to show the intensity of the sun beating down. (This is 4 of the 8 backgrounds I painted for this project.)

Jungle Monkey

 

This is a character design I did for part of an art test for DreamKind (I pasted that art test but I decided to decline the job because of other offers)

He is a Jungle monkey. He is a slow moving guy who spends most of his time up in the tall trees eating berries and soaking up the sun. He is a very wise animal and his antlers grow as he gains wisdom. The other jungle animals come to him for advice and insight into the future.

(I had 45min to an hour to come up with a character, draw, and describe his purpose.)

Powerpuff Girls process

 

1. Ideas, sketches, thumbnails (btw, i always do many more sketches in my sketchbook before starting)

2. sketch in black and white, basic values and tighter drawing 

3. finish drawing, block in colors 

4. tone and value, switching back and forth between color and black/white as i paint.

5. color and value

6. some detail 

7. more detail

8. Refining the focal point and pushing some values and color saturations/temperature.

Danny Phantom

This is my Danny Phantom fan art. Danny Phantom is one of my favorite TV shows from Nick. I have wanted to do this for a wile:) I decided to make up my own monster and story. The evil baking monster form the ghost zone takes people and turns them into his cupcake ghost minions. Their goal is to turn all the humans into ghosts and rule earth.
