Starting A Painting

These are grayscale sketches that i do before i go into color when doing a painting. These quick/small sketches help me figure out composition, lighting and values. This is the step after sketching with lines. I will try to get better at showing more of my process :)

  1. Wow! Very interesting. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Quite insightful. As a new illustrator, I appreciate seeing the process you go through. Are all these different layouts for the same idea, or is this meant to tell a story? I looks quite similar to the color scripts animators use to plot out their work.

    1. These are all for the same idea. The finished painting is "yack man" its a little further down in my blog. Yes, thank you, i look at a lot of concept art and color scrips that are done for animated movies.

  3. Great work! Always inspiring to see the creative process. I'd like to post it on my creative process page, but I can't find the finished 'yack man' painting...can you help?

  4. This link should work. its to my FB. Thank you!
